First, a rough sketch is drawn in pencil to get an idea of the basic design.
The basic sketch is then given to a clay worker.

The clay comes in different colors, so by combining the right colors we can make Kappasan. The clay figure is fired in the residual heat of a 120 degree oven. The figure is then taken out of the oven and left to cool, and the process is repeated a number of times. The eyes and ears etc. are not painted on, but molded into the clay.

This delicate process is repeated for each figure, resulting in carefully-made and adorable Kappasan characters.
